For several years, Schoolwires has had the pleasure of working with Barrington 220 School District in Illinois, delivering innovate Made-To-Order website designs that encourage engagement, increase involvement, and reflect Barrington 220's community. And we had the opportunity to be part of the development of their brand new user experience, which just launched in January 2015.

Think outside the box.

Our partners at Barrington 220 were looking for a K-12 website design that would tell a story and engage their audiences. As their creative team, some of the challenges we faced were to deliver a user experience that is innovative, effectively uses video, enhances usability, and maintains a focus on content that matters most to their website visitors.

So, what did we do?

When you visit the website home page, a large video - We Are Barrington 220 - fills the browser. A simplistic design approach enables users to easily find popular items. Google Agenda View and Google Calendar integration streamlines their content, creating a central location for users. Use of eye-catching infographics support why Barrington 220.

But wait.

With our simple, yet sophisticated approach, our Barrington 220 partners were able to take these ideas and run with them. They created an instructional video to present the new website to visitors to ensure maximum usability. Well done, Barrington 220!

And, it's always nice to receive thanks straight from the client: "Suzanne was so willing to go above and beyond the 'standard' template options and incorporate custom options for our website. We are very excited to incorporate Google calendar and video into our home page!"

Why design matters: How a well-designed website can increase K-12 community engagement

Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at 4:00 pm Eastern

You might be surprised by how much the look and design of a district website impacts communication and K-12 community engagement. But it does!

In this webinar, you will learn from seasoned, professional website designers about how design solves communication challenges and why it is a critical factor for increasing your community's engagement.

Our three guest speakers will explain why design is an essential aspect in creating a great user experience that keeps your K-12 community coming back to your websites. And you will gain a better understanding of what makes for "good" website design. Deeper than trends, taste, and aesthetics, design involves a whole process of objective thinking and problem solving as a basis for creating something beautiful, functional, and interactive.

Attendees will learn about:

  • Principles of design
  • The design process
  • Best practices in design
  • Benefits of good design
  • How a well-designed website can increase community engagement

At the end of the presentation, attendees will be able to ask questions.
